In the "Tightrope Zone" cartoon from Dolcett the characters of Lucy and her mom only appear in 2-3 of the 40 drawings. I've always been interested in these two characters. How did they get there? The situation makes me feel sad and worried about them. (Don't get me wrong -- I don't want them to be rescued or released. I don't like rescue stories. It's just that their situation stirs strong emotions in me. Any execution story can stir strong melancholy feelings. When it's a mother-daughter situation like this the emotions are stronger.) Dolcett's work is always very dark. I feel it has just a touch of humor also. That helps keep the story from being *too* dark and bleak. Partly that comes from his rather light-hearted, cartoonish drawing style. (There's also some kind of strange semi-consent in The Tightrope Zone. The women who are going to hang seem worried and nervous. But none of them other than Penny asks to be released or spared or pardoned. I tried to capture this

It's cute how she keeps her knees spread apart. It's a sweet and pretty look. She's been well trained. Either that or she just enjoys doing the subbie role and enjoys doing it well. Dark colored cuffs make a pretty contrast to her fair skin. A few months ago I posted another photo with a blonde wearing dark cuffs. I like it a lot: My story "Noose Party" also features some black handcuffs. It was inspired by the work of SusanCoquin. Warning - it's a sad and dark little story that does not have a happy ending.
